TotalBank, Doral Chamber help students head back to school with backpack drive

TotalBank, Miami’s premier community bank, partnered with the Doral Chamber of Commerce (DCC) for a month-long back-to-school drive that got underway Aug. 10 with the donation of pre-filled backpacks to the Leadership Learning Center in Little Havana.

The bank’s three Doral Banking Center were drop-off sites to collect school supplies for the drive, which went to benefit more than 250 local pre-K through 12 students served by the Center.

According to the National Retail Federation, the average total for back-to-school supplies may cost a family up to $443. The DCC sponsored the collection to help reduce the financial strain placed on many South Florida families struggling to provide their children with the necessary tools to attend school.

The Leadership Learning Center is a pilot program that aims to create positive change for school children in Little Havana who come from difficult and challenged home environments by instilling them with self-respect and self-esteem through personal and academic achievement.

TotalBank and DCC marked the occasion with the Aug. 10 “Donation Celebration” event at TotalBank’s Doral Plaza Banking Center located at 9690 NW 41 Street.
