Miami Christian School scored more than 40 points above the national average on the Index of Educational Quality following the Advanc-ED and ACSI accrediting agency visits to the MCS campus for three days in late October to conduct for a re-accreditation report. The group observed classrooms, talked with students, parents, staff, and board members, read the school’s Self-Study and School Improvement Plan, looked at surveys given to all groups, standardized test data, and wrote an exit report based on the input that not only reported their reaccreditation but excelled nationally in their School Quality Index Rating.

In the midst of that visit, school administrators and staff were also busy planning an Oct. 30 “Pumpkins and Pancakes” fundraiser on campus. The morning was filled with hayrides, pumpkin decorations, farmer costumes, cotton candy, snow cones, class photos and other fun activities.

After winning the district title, the MCS bowling team went on to compete for the state championship in Orlando during the first week of November. Although coming up short, the team is anxious to make a re-appearance next year. As for baseball, our team does well when not rained out as has so often happened this year.

MCS celebrated Veteran’s Day in a meaningful way to enhance the lives of soldiers and veterans. During a special day, students paid $2 to wear jeans with a patriotic shirt, all proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. Fifth graders wrote letters to be delivered to US servicemen overseas as part of the day’s commemorative events.

Finally, on Nov. 14, alumni, students, friends and family gathered for a fun-filled day. While younger children played in a giant bounce house, everyone enjoyed being entertained by the sounds of Johnny Rez (aka Perez) and his band, Rezolution. A talented singer and musician who graduated from MCS in 2008, Johnny provided a great show as the crowd ate a grilled-to-order lunch. As Johnny closed the show, everyone moved to the gym where some members from the National Championship MCS basketball team returned for the day and, with some current coaches, played a great basketball game against this year’s team. Hilarity ensued and fun was had by all.

Among many attending the event were alumni from the Class of ‘71 for a 45-year reunion, catching up with old friends and taking tours of the newly-renovated school grounds. After a day of fun, food and even a cake walk, everyone gathered for the big raffle drawing that included a top prize weekend for two with breakfast each day at the beautiful Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables.

Finally, elementary school students prepared for their annual plays and, of course, annual collections for various charities, both before and after Thanksgiving.
