Ana Graciela Méndez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juan Méndez, 2292 NW 82nd Ave, Doral, and a graduate of Miss Porter’s School, is one of 299 2011 graduates of Haverford College in H a v e r f o r d , P e n n s y l v a n i a . Méndez received a bachelor’s degree in political science at commencement ceremonies on May 15.

Mendez’s senior thesis, capstone of the Haverford academic experience, is Panama’s Shattered Democracy: The Impact of the United States’ Disingenuous Promotion of Democracy.

At Haverford, Méndez was involved in a variety of campus activities, a teaching assistant for I n t e r m e d i a t e Spanish classes, and a writer for the Bi- College News. She completed a summer internship with La Prensa, Panama’s largest and most respected newspaper.

During her internship, Méndez uncovered a story about human rights violation committed between 1968 and 1989 by the former Panamanian dictators, Omar Torrijos and Manuel Noriega.

Haverford’s 1,200 students, who enjoy an eight- to-one student-faculty ratio, come from independent and public schools across the United States and 17 countries around the world.
