Following the tragedy on Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, Mayor Luigi Boria issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Doral City Council and myself, I would like to express our most sincere condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims of the tragic events that transpired on Dec. 14 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heinous crime.
“In that light, I would like to affirm to all Doral residents that the City of Doral will work together with the Miami Dade School Board, along with the proper authorities, to ensure that all of the needed steps and precautions are taken to prevent any such atrocity from ever occurring in one of our schools.
“Student safety is the principal and most fundamental element of any educational institution. Our schools are our children’s second home, and as such, students should feel the same sense of security in their classrooms as they do in their own homes.
“I ask that you keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers during these trying times. God bless you all.”
— Luigi Boria, Mayor of Doral.
