Celebrating the 140th birthday of Glenn Curtiss

In celebration of the 140th birthday of legendary aviator and inventor Glenn Hammond Curtiss, the public is invited to take historic tour of the Curtiss Mansion to learn about his fascinating life and inventions.

The Curtiss Masion Inc. (CMI) is offering one-hour tours every Saturday through May beginning at 10 a.m. Admission is $5 per person, free for kids under 12 years old, and free for Miami-Dade Public Library Museum Pass holders, as well.

Curtiss was known as the “Father of Naval Aviation” and “The Fastest Man on Earth.” Along with his 500 inventions, 400 patents, and contributions to the Aviation Industry, Curtiss was also instrumental in the 1920s land boom of Miami. Contemporaries of Merrick, Fairchild, Kellogg’s, Ford and Rickenbacker; he co-founded Miami Springs, Hialeah, and Opa Locka. He donated the land for the Miami International and the Opa Locka Airports where he originally was training naval aviators.

The restored Pueblo-Revival style Curtiss Mansion in Miami Springs was built in 1925 CMI is presently on a mission to help make Glenn Curtiss a household name again and exposing this beautiful gem in Miami that at one point was abandoned and partially burned in fires.

Now the mansion is fully restored and is a Smithsonian recognized and historically registered.

Curtiss Mansion Inc. (CMI), a Florida-registered 501(c)3, was established in 1998 to preserve the home and legacy Glenn Hammond Curtiss. It is a Smithsonian recognized restoration and a National Historic Site.
