The City of Doral saw a decisive election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with Christi Fraga winning a resounding re-election for Mayor. Fraga garnered 79.35% of the votes, with 20,246 ballots cast in her favor, well ahead of Roxanna Garay, who received 20.65% (5,270 votes). This outcome reflects widespread community support for Fraga’s vision and leadership.

The City Council also re-elected Rafael Pineyro to Seat 1, who won with 60.51% of the vote, totaling 14,900 ballots. Pineyro’s opponent, Ivette Gonzalez Petkovich, received 39.49% (9,723 votes). Both Fraga and Pineyro expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust shown by Doral’s residents and reaffirmed their dedication to prioritizing transparency and growth within the city.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by this support and grateful to the community for recognizing the efforts we’ve made over these last two years,” Fraga said. She emphasized the ongoing need for strong partnerships, noting, “While Rafael and I are committed to Doral, we rely on people like Nicole—who understands our city’s needs—to help us address what needs improvement and continue making Doral a great place to live and work.”

Pineyro added, “Today’s results reflect the values our community holds dear. We’ve focused on transparency and ensuring every decision has the residents’ interests at heart.” He thanked his supporters and volunteers, committing to maintain this momentum in his next term.

The council’s fifth seat, however, remains undecided, leading to a runoff election set for Tuesday, Dec. 10. Candidates Nicole Reinoso, Juan Carlos Esquivel are vying for the position. Reinoso led the vote with 44.68% (10,340 votes), followed by Esquivel with 35.64% (8,249 votes), and Vilarino with 19.68% (4,554 votes). Irina Vilarino has been eliminated!

In an impressive turnout, Doral saw a record number of voters participating by mail or early voting, underscoring the strong civic spirit within the community. With over 34,000 registered voters in Doral, residents continue to shape the city’s future through active engagement.

The reelection of Mayor Fraga and Rafael Pineyro, and the resulting run-off of Reinoso and Esquivel is the crucial next step in removing the iron fist control of the ex-Mayor Juan Carlos “JC” Bermudez.

Doral’s current City Council consists of re-elected officials Fraga and Pineyro, along with Maureen Porras and Digna Cabral, both elected in 2022. The final Council member will be selected in the upcoming December runoff, marking the final step in forming the new leadership team dedicated to Doral’s development and well-being.
