Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr.’s recognizes Steven Marin, Jr., for helping homeless and foster care students at Florida International University

On July 23, 2019, Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr. recognized Steven Marin, Jr., a Florida International University (FIU) student, who has been helping students who are homeless and coming out of foster care by raising money for FIU’s Fostering Panther Pride (FPP) program. Through FPP, FIU provides them with food and shelter, when other students are going home to their families.

“In the five years that Steven has been involved with FIU’s Fostering Panther Pride, he has raised over $100,000. Since its inception, 425 students have benefited from the program as out of the 425, 117 have graduated from FIU,” Commissioner Bovo said. “As an alumnus of FIU, I thank and congratulate Steven for his efforts to help his fellow panthers fulfill their utmost potential.”

  1. Touching, but how many FIU students and alumni are actually or effectively homeless, with a 2000-hour-a-year income below $40,000, a joke by South Florida standards?

  2. This is fantastic. As a professional Mental Health professional, I wonder if there is a support system for these students; something that could increase those graduation rates.

  3. His loving acts should be a model for all. Hopefully he will inspire others. Politicians in Wahington should be informed and follow his example.

  4. Its greatcthatcSteven Marin, Jr. is helping the needy. But Commissioner Bovo promised that the traffic light would be synchronized 3 years ago, but they are worst now.

  5. What an outstanding citizen. This is what this country is about. I will share this far and wide.

  6. We commend Stephen Marin, Jr. for this unselfish act of kindness. We can only hope that he serves as an example to us all.
