Downtown Doral Charter Upper School (DDCUS) unrolled its red carpet to a packed house on Friday, March 10, and raised more than $7,000 in support of the school´s newly established David Scott Isenberg Art Fund – a performing and visual arts initiative.
The evening kicked off with a live music reception for nearly 425 attendees and a viewing of highly curated student exhibitions of art, photography, and sculpture. The reception was followed by students who took the stage to perform original works, which included dance, music, theater, poetry, and vocal ensemble.
Kim Ortiz, principal at DDCUS, commented, ¨It was a wonderful night showcasing the talents of our students and celebrating the interdisciplinary collaboration amongst our departments¨
Held in collaboration with DDCUS’s Art Department and its literary art publication, The Capital Letter, the event is the culmination of a year-long initiative led by students and faculty to support and promote DDCUS’s artistic pursuits. Just over 190 students participated in the Art Collective.
DDCUS high school senior, Irene Stojanovicrive, 18, said, “Art Collective was special because I was invited to perform Flamenco by my favorite teacher, so it was meaningful that she wanted to give me the opportunity to share my talents with everyone. It was also a night dedicated to seniors, so it was amazing to be celebrated in such a special way.”
In addition, DDCUS’s first graduating class, was honored at the special event. All ticket sale proceeds will go to the inaugural David Scott Isenberg Art Collective Fund.
Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg, Head of Schools, “Through the Art Collective, the community of Downtown Doral was exposed to the beauty of the performing and fine arts. It was a true celebration of the international culture that exists at Downtown Doral Charter Upper School. We are so proud of how our students and teachers inspired all of us.”
