Over 120 runners from Divine Savior Academy ran together in the Doral 5K on Saturday, March 15. Sporting bright blue running shirts, these DSA supporters made a visual impact with their 10 Year Anniversary message, “Divine Savior Academy: 10 Years Running Strong.”
This group of Divine Savior Academy runners included students, parents, family members, faculty, staff, and administrators of all ages, from 2 year-olds in strollers to high school track athletes to Senior Pastor Carl Leyrer.
“This is my first 5K,” says Principal Ben Troge, “And I loved the feeling of camaraderie not only among our DSA group, but also with the community of Doral. It was a special experience to run the race down 58th street, right in front of Divine Savior Academy and in the heart of Doral.”
Camaraderie was an important part of the race, but competition was, too. The highlight of the competition was DSA sophomore Guilherme Pereira finishing second place overall. Also on the podium were students Caden Fischer and Nicolas Padilla, as well as DSA parent Julia Leyrer, 6th grade teacher Erika Laete, 4th grade teacher Amy Schramm, and 2nd grade teacher Brittany Steinmeyer.
“To see how big our DSA family has become is really a testament to God’s grace. It’s amazing how far He has brought us over the last decade, and I can’t wait to see what He has in store for us in the years to come!” enthuses Superintendent Carlos Leyrer.
Divine Savior Academy is the only private Christian school in Doral, Florida. The academy has over 550 students enrolled in Pre-K3 through twelfth grade. The school is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year and is in the process of doubling the size of its campus with a stand-alone high school building and grounds. DSA has plans to break ground late this spring and open the new building for the 2015-2016 school year.
