On March 25th, Doral and the City of Armenia, Colombia signed a Sister City agreement, executed by Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and Mayor Carlos Mario Alvarez Morales. The agreement will result in active cultural partnership and stimulate bilateral trade between the two municipalities.
“The City of Armenia will not sign anymore sister city agreements in order to concentrate on activating this agreement with the City of Doral,” declares Mayor Carlos Mario Alvarez. Residents from Armenia and Doral will engage in mutually beneficial, cultural, educational and business exchanges that will lead to a lasting friendship between the two communities. The Sister City initiative is a priority for Doral, underscoring the importance of forming relationships abroad to further the City’s smart growth program.
Also in attendance was Vice Mayor Pete Cabrera and all three Councilmembers. Community leaders, Colombian business owners and City residents filled the Doral Council Chambers to partake in this historic occasion.
Immediately following the ceremony, guests and residents enjoyed a celebration at Downtown Doral Park featuring a live performance by Barranquilla artist, Aníbal Velásquez, and Johnny Scharbaay, a renowned Aruban pianist.
