On Tuesday, May 12th, during the monthly Signature Breakfast of the Doral Business Council (DBC), the organization announced the three finalists and winner of the DBC’s 2015 Small Business of the Year Award sponsored by Mercantil Commercebank. Finalists for this prestigious award (in alphabetical order) included Infinite Windows, LLC; OrthoNow Doral, LLC; and Regions Security Services, Inc.
Osvaldo Marchante, of Marchante & Associates, chairman of the panel of independent judges for this awards competition, remarked that multiple very qualified nominations had been received making competition stiff. However, after serious deliberation, the panel of judges selected three businesses, each of which was extraordinary in its own particular niche market. DBC Small Business Committee chairwoman, attorney Deborah Mayo, of South Florida Corporate Counsel, took the stage to announce the finalists and called each forward as their company story was told. Joining in the storytelling were Sonya Cañas and Yvonne Boucugnani, officers of the Mercantil Commercebank which sponsored the DBC 2015 Small Business of the Year Award; and DBC Chairman Bruce Siddens, of Sam’s Club.
Following those introductions, Bruce Siddens had the honor of announcing the winner, Regions Security Services, Inc., founded by veteran Carlos Rivero. Trophies and plaques were then presented to the founders and CEOs of each of these impressive Doral-based companies who were finalists while guests at the DBC Signature Breakfast joined in the celebration of their success. Representing Infinite Windows were its founders, two talented young entrepreneurs, Santiago Toral and Esteban Kadamani. OrthoNow Doral, LLC founded by renowned hand and upper extremity surgeon Alejandro Badia, M.D., was represented by CFO Justin Irizarry.
After being presented the award, Carlos Rivero remarked, “I am very honored to have received this award. The Doral Business Council holds a very special place in my heart and, if it weren’t for the DBC, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am today. The DBC is how I learned to network and build relationships.” When asked why he thought that Regions Security had been selected the DBC 2015 Small Business of the Year award, Mr. Rivero replied, “It’s all about being passionate and consistent. That’s what will take you to the next level.”
