Speaking of meetings, the National Association of Professional Women meet every month in Doral. Led by Aly Ramos of QueBelle Events, the group supports many charitable programs whose members are a very successful career women representing a variety of fields. On Feb. 12, they held a live remote fashion show and cocktail event at MACC. Guest speakers airing from New York of the AHA Fashion Show was Dr. Stefanie Salera of Atlas Chiropractic and Zulmarie Pain, a motivational speaker featured on Telemundo and Univision.The group’s next meeting will be at Sergio’s in Doral Mar. 24. In other news, the first ever Jr. Orange Bowl Gala was held Feb. 28 at the Westin Colonnade with Event Chair Michelle Benitez-Bermudez planning a great evening and sponsorships. The JOB holds several activities in Doral and greater Doral areas, resulting in a large economic impact on our city. Kudos to JOBC Past President (who also happens to be ongoing JOBC Basketball Chair) Chuck Little, who brought the JOB Tournament to Doral, attracting several visiting teams from outside the state.
This time of year, there are no shortage of fun events to attend. On Mar. 7, the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s “Casino Night” is certainly the best deal in town for a great evening of fun, games, music, food with a silent auction and more.Tickets are $50 and include entertainment, gaming, one drink (cash bar as well), hors d’oeuvres and silent auction, all for a great cause in the beautiful CGWC clubhouse at 1009 East Ponce de Leon Blvd. Several Doralian women belong to this organization that owns and operates a free dental clinic for the children of the working poor. Every weekend, walkers and runners can find a walk but the one walk close to this writer’s heart is the Mar. 14 5K Walk at Amelia Earhart Park for A Safe Haven for Newborns, an organization that saves the lives of babies who would have been abandoned or worse.The Doral Business Council is one of many teams participating this year, joining forces with A Safe Haven to hold a “First Lap Kick-off” party at Sergio’s in Kendall. Sergio’s generously donated drinks and hors d’oeuvres for this mini-fundraiser Feb. 9. Among those attending was Safe Haven founder Nick Silverio who proudly announced they had just saved another newborn, totaling 220 of those saved. Save Apr. 26 when Paws 4 You holds its 5K Run/Walk, hoping to replicate last year’s success that saved countless dogs from euthanasia at Miami-Dade Animal Services. Changing it up a bit, this year’s event will be held early evening at Killian Greens Golf Club, featuring an officially- timed race on a certified course for our more serious runners with a celebration to follow. All are encouraged to attend and bring friends, families, and dogs!
On the hotel scene, the InterContinental at Doral Miami recently welcomed Jose A. Muñoz as the new restaurant chef. Munoz, a stellar chef with several achievement awards, has created a new menu to include a variety of local ingredients and layers of flavors. He previously was chef de partie at Fountainbleau on Miami Beach and holds a bachelor degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from the University of Puerto Rico.
