At the second Budget Hearing Meeting, Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez and City Council unanimously approved to adopt a reduced millage rate for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 at 1.7166. This will be the lowest millage rate of any of the 34 municipalities in Miami-Dade County for the upcoming year and the lowest millage rate ever in the City’s history of almost 20 years.
“The entire nation is currently experiencing difficult economic times and inflation, which is why we knew that we needed to take action during budget process for the upcoming year to help our residents and business,” stated Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez. “I want to thank my colleagues – Vice Mayor Digna Cabral, Councilman Pete Cabrera, Councilwoman Claudia Mariaca and Councilman Oscar Puig- Corve – for joining me in this crucial decision to lower Doral’s millage rate so that our community does not see a rise in taxes from the City.”
Taxpayers in the Doral have historically benefitted from low taxes with approximately 13% of their taxes going to the City, while 45% and 38% goes towards Miami-Dade County and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, respectively. The proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 is available online on the City’s website for the public to access.
