After trekking up to Orlando with a sales team to attend the recent Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition, Doral-Based Prime Fresh Handling (PFH) is preaching the power of small-business networking at trade shows.
Attended by more than 1,200 fresh-produce exhibitors, it was the first time PFH attended this enormous show, hosted each year by the Produce Marketing Association, which serves the global produce and floral-supply chain business.
“This really was the epitome of where to go to get the best ideas and make connections with the right people,” says Prime Group CEO Roger Paredes, of PFH’s parent company.
“And it was a textbook case of effective sales networking in action, as we not only came home with solid new customer business in hand, but with a number of very solid prospects, as well.”
The PMA Fresh Summit is for growers in South America and importers of produce, to conglomerates with household names like Dole and firms like Prime Fresh Handling, which focuses on all aspects of the transport of perishables.
Paredes says they chose to attend the show as a strategic steppingstone in expansion of the company’s Prime Fresh Handling product and service line.
After 17 years in business, he noted, “There’s little doubt we’re a familiar face in the transport of fresh flowers – which will certainly continue to be a huge focus for us. But we see great value in aggressively expanding into handling produce such as fruit, vegetables, and fish.”
