As one of Doral’s founding councilmembers, and a current councilmember, we have had the
privilege of seeing Pete Cabrera in action, serving the people of his community since the very beginning with pride, conviction, integrity, and sheer professionalism. In fact, as Publishers of Miami’s Community Newspapers, Michael and Grant Miller, we’ve known Pete since the early 1990s – even before the City of Doral incorporated in 1995.
We’ve been through the highs and lows with Pete, and we not only consider him a friend, but we also know first-hand that he so successfully helped lead this flourishing community to become the highly enviable city it is today. That is why it is our honor to endorse Pete to be the next mayor of Doral.
With Pete in the mayor’s seat, the residents of Doral will not only benefit his more than 35 years of experience working in the private sector and years of public service on their council, but they will continue to see their community thrive through Pete’s “people-driven” style of governing. He listens to the needs of the residents and genuinely encourages the active participation of all the residents and businesses.
As one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state, we are most heartened by Pete’s determination to address Doral’s egregious transportation and mobility challenges, seriously and finally. Comprehensive traffic solutions to ease congestion on Doral’s roads and major highways will need to be job one and no one is better suited to do see this work through – without delay.
We also believe that Pete’s plan, “on day one” as he states, to begin a thorough review of all current city services and departments is refreshing and necessary. Combined with ensuring resident feedback, this effort will create a much-needed blueprint to make the necessary changes to city services to improve quality of life for Doral’s residents and business.
On the public safety front, Pete is committed to ensuring that the sworn officers of the Doral Police Department have access to all the tools they need to perform their jobs efficiently and expand their training to better serve the public.
Lastly, Doral needs to consistently maintain its infrastructure so that important development can continue in the areas of the city that are essential to municipal economic growth. Here again, we believe Pete will clearly succeed in providing the right development strategy to achieve long- term economic stability while lessening the resident tax burden.
With our endorsement of Pete Cabrera for mayor of Doral, we look forward to the leadership Doral expects and deserves.
