Autumn was in the air at Miami Christian School as students recently enjoyed fall sports and activities. In November, they delighted in the school’s annual Harvest Day with everything from hayrides and pumpkin decorating to some great grilled foods to picnic on the campus grounds. As for fall sports, both the MCS Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams started out their season with a 2-0 win loss record; so, they are off to a promising start.
The National and Junior National Honor Society inducted their first semester members in November in a ceremony led by NHS officers and sponsor James Gentry.
On the alumni front, Isaiah Reese, MCS graduating Class of 2015 and member of the MCS State Championship 2015 team, is attending Canisius College on a basketball scholarship. Isaiah became the first Canisius player in their 114 year history to record a triple-double – scoring 23 points, snagging 11 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists in the Golden Griffins’ 104-84 victory against Youngstown State on Nov. 18.
Yet another alumna, Julitza Lopez, Miami Christian Class of 2017, is studying Public Relations at American University in Washington, which is the number 3 program in the U.S. in her major. Meanwhile, Alina Andrews, Miami Christian Valedictorian of the Class of 2015, is studying Biomedical Engineering at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, which is the number 1 program in the U.S. in her major. The two caught up one recent weekend, when Julitza made a trip to Baltimore to see Alina and to see the sites.
Chris Abello, graduate of the Class of 2015, dropped by school for a visit. He is transferring from Loyola University in New Orleans to FIU to continue his studies in Music Therapy. He is currently completing a paid internship at Sunny Behavior working one on one with children, and is also volunteering his services at Heartland Hospice.
Getting into the holiday spirit, the Miami Christian School band and elementary school students will perform a concert on Dec. 14, just before the winter break.
For the Christmas break, MCS offices will be closed Dec. 20 – January 8 (Dec. 20 will be a half day).
