Fall events back on track after stormy weather

Tropical storms have been a challenge this fall but Miami Christian School has bounced back. Under Volleyball Coach Natalia Davila, the MCS Varsity Girls Volleyball team made it to Regionals after a good season. At the team’s last home game, the school and coaches honored their graduating senior players: Jackie Gonzalez, Chrissy Rosillo and Allison Bean. This trio have been together at MCS since they were babies and also happen to make up the homecoming court. Speaking of which, Homecoming is coming up during basketball season. Basketball, under Coach Juan Cardona, and this year’s team promises to have a good year.

The young varsity football team finished with a successful season under Coach Nick Turnbull. This was a great beginning for the resurgence of football at MCS and Coach Turnbull is building a great team.

By the way, a shout out to OrthoNow Doral for helping with all the required physicals needed for MCS athletes.

This month brings opportunities to share and to be thankful with the upcoming holidays. MCS stresses the importance of giving back and is always so pleased to see students doing just that. In fact, it continues as they become adults. One such example is basketball star and MCS alum, JJ Barea, who recently helped the Dallas Mavericks and Mark Cuban with hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. JJ actually flew to Puerto Rico on Cuban’s private B767 to deliver supplies.

“Donuts with Daddy” held last month, one of many ways MCS involves parents, was a fun morning for the elementary school students. Fathers dropped by to spend time with their children before work enjoying juice, coffee and donuts that made for a yummy start for the day.

Fall events also include “Harvest Day” as well as “Hispanic Heritage” week that gives students an opportunity to dress in costumes and share their cultures with others.

Holiday concerts and more coming up soon. For more information visit www.miamichristian.org or to tour the campus, call 305-221-7754.
