Discussion of key issues facing residents of the City of Hialeah will be center stage Oct. 13 as each candidate in the race for Mayor and City Council gather to present their vision for Florida’s sixth largest city in a public forum moderated by the Federated Republican Women of North Dade (FRWND).
The one-of-a-kind “Meet & Greet” at Goodlet Park Theater, 6-9 p.m., offers a opportunity for the five candidates in the race for the Mayor’s seat and 14 others competing to represent Council Districts V, VI, and VII, to share their platforms in advance of the start of Early Voting on Oct. 25 and Primary Day, Nov 2.
Following opening remarks by FRWND Chapter President Maricel Cobitz at 6 p.m., Moderator Lucy Pereda, Radio personality at WWFE La Poderosa 670AM, will invite each candidate to speak separately in sequence through the duration of the event. Rather than take questions on stage, audience members are encouraged to meet with candidates in the theater lobby prior to and following formal remarks. The 250-seat municipal theater is located in Goodlet Park, 4200 West 8th Ave., Hialeah, FL 33012. Pre-registration to attend the event is required via email at maricel.frwnd@gmail.com.
As a political organization, FRWND focuses on informing the electorate through education and activities, disseminating information to members, increasing the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government, and facilitating cooperation among Republican Women’s Clubs in the State of Florida.
“Our local chapter is a dynamic group that seeks to inform and engage Republican women in politics for the good of our state and the country overall,” says Chapter President Maricel Cobitz. “As such, we are pleased to serve voters by hosting this exciting forum to learn where candidates stand on such important local issues as economic development, public safety, government transparency, public works, and much more.”
Formed in early 2017, FRWND seeks to recruit members and contributions, and hosts ongoing events in the northern incorporated and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County including: Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Palm Springs, Aventura, North Miami Beach, North Miami, Miami Gardens, Sunny Isles, and Golden Beach. Secretary Maite Bocanegra and Treasurer Jane Muir join Cobitz as fellow officers on the FRWND Board of Directors.
“With so many seats open, and such a wide range of candidates running, this is one of the of the most important elections seasons we’ve seen in many years here in Hialeah, and our chapter is honored to host such a well-timed forum for voters and candidates alike,” added Chapter Officer Jane Muir.
