Starting on January 19, Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez joined more than 150 of the nation’s mayors in Washington, DC for the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) 90th Winter Meeting. Mayors discussed a wide variety of priorities that contribute to the overall health of America’s cities. The Meeting, held at the Capital Hilton, ran through Friday, January 22, 2022, and brought together local and federal leaders to tackle the biggest issues affecting the American people.
“I am very proud to represent Doral at this impactful conference that not only allows for an opportunity to highlight the great things our City has accomplished, but to also meet with national leaders about ways to continue innovating and improving. In addition to attending informative sessions, I met with Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and Congressman Carlos Gimenez about several key issues of importance to our community. Maintaining Doral as the premier place to live, work, learn and play requires collaboration with leaders at all levels of government and we thank them for their work for our community,” said Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez.
With more than 85 percent of Americans living in U.S. metropolitan areas, mayors are on the frontlines of today’s challenges and have consistently called on Washington to draw on mayoral expertise. During the Meeting, the bipartisan group held sessions on a range of issues, including the implementation of city resources included in the American Rescue Plan Act and the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act as well as public safety, climate change, affordable housing, and economic mobility.
“The Winter Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors is an important way for cities across the country to stay connected with one another. It’s a unique opportunity for mayors—whether Democrat, Republican or Independent—to roll up their sleeves, brainstorm about how to solve similar problems, and share best practices. As we continue the challenging work of managing COVID-19, there is no better time for the nation’s mayors to come together to work on their shared priorities and engage with federal leaders to improve the lives of all our residents,” said USCM President and Miami Mayor Francis X. Suarez.
