Mayor Emphasizes Financial Literacy at State Farm Grants

 

Doral Academy students honored with State Farm grants.

Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez addressed nearly 100 students at a grant award ceremony at Doral Academy Charter Preparatory School, part of a special presentation by State Farm Insurance that awarded the school with a $25,000 grant for it Financial Literacy classes.

Mayor Bermudez stressed the importance of entrepreneurship and student futures in a competitive global economy.

As Mayor, Bermudez set a goal to work together with principals in the Doral area that includes Financial Literacy classes at the high school level.

Doral Academy was one of only 11 high-schools in the state of Florida to receive the State Farm Youth Advisory Board grant for its Firebird Nest project, first conceived at the Academy to provide an understanding of the responsibilities of managing money and making smart financial decisions.

Students in the Advanced Algebra/Financial Applications class will have a major component of their grade based on the successful implementation and maintenance of a profitable in-school business.
