Miami Christian School recently competed in the Coral Park Invitational, the only independent private school of the eight teams invited to play. Continuing their successful Volleyball Season, the ladies were awarded a trophy for their fourth place finish.
With Fall every year comes the Annual Autumn Book Fair at the MCS School Library. Students excitedly checked out the Fall selection of books, posters, supplies and educational games. Scholastic makes donations of “Scholastic Dollars” based on total sales for the school to purchase library books and books for individual classroom libraries. As salesexceeded last year’s total, expect even more enrichments coming for the elementary school classrooms thanks to the generosity of all who participated.
The MCS Bowling Team continues to excel recently sweeping Hialeah Educational 7 to 0. The final score was 3028 to 1381. Liam Reloba led the way with an almost perfect game shooting 10 out of 12 possible strikes to finish with a game high 286 and a series high of 691. The team also got big contributions from Igar Rodriguez 233, Cody Stevens had three games of 200 each, Arturo Dube had a season high 202 game, Ricky Mesa averaged a 185 for three games and Antonio Corea had a 177 game. This outstanding team has an undefeated streak losing no games last year, and have won all five competitions this year. Miami Christian also held its first Girls’ Bowling Match. MCS student Brittney Rodriguez took on Ana Hilton from Gulliver Prep with a high game of 149.
ON the alumni front, MCS graduate, Class of 2009, Chrissy Stachl, attended the University of Washington on a Gates Millennium Scholarship and received a degree in Chemistry and Neurobiology. She won the American Society for Mass Spectrometry poster award in both 2013 and 2014. She then spent the year following graduation on a German Academic Exchange Service Scholarship in the laboratory of Gert von Helden at the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin. Chrissy will next pursue her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at UC Berkley.
In faculty updates, Miami Christian School welcomed Jason Oliver as a Middle School Math and Science teacher. Mr. Oliver graduated from FIU with a Master’s degree in Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He was the recipient of the Running Friends Forever Scholarship, was on FIU’s Academic Honor Roll, and was also on the Dean’s List. His educational experience was at Mater Lakes Academy, and he has coached Cross-Country at Carrollton and Killian High School.
