Miami Christian School is known for offering a wide and wonderful variety of activities celebrating the seasons, which complement their fine academic programs. And now that autumn is in full swing, the MCS family recently celebrated with “Pumpkins & Pancakes,” a unique annual event generously sponsored by I-HOP.
Students reveled a yummy I-HOP breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, and juice before hitching up and heading out on a variety iof activities that included hay rides, pumpkin decorating, and perusing a mini petting zoo. MCS is grateful to I-HOP Area Director, Alberto Montoto, David Garcia, and to Yudit Damaso, manager of the I-HOP on Sunset Drive and 96 Ave., who provided the food for this fun-filled morning.
It is also the time of the year when senior work on college applications gets into high gear. In fact, senior Danny Fuenmayor has already received his acceptance for the fall 2017 semester at St. Thomas University.
Miami Christian is also well known for consistently encouraging volunteerism and community service focused on activities that are truly meaningful to the high school students. With the recent devastation in Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, the MCS Service Club got immediately involved in relief efforts. They engaged in numerous projects coordinated under the direction of Mrs. Vicky Vila.
In addition, senior Julitza Lopez-Cardenas has been active in volunteering work with a candidates running for Doral Mayoral. In the course of her work, she has been introduced to a number of political luminaries such as all the mayoral candidates including Mayor Luigi Boria, Senator Marco Rubio, and Past President Álvaro Uribe of Colombia.
In the area of athletics, the Girls’ Volleyball team completed their season in District Regionals play after enjoying a 10-0 undefeated season in their district. The Boys’ Bowling team has also enjoyed district success and will be traveling to the state competition again this year.
Kudos to Israel Ortet, MCS Spanish and ESOL instructor, who was honored recently with a letter of commendation from the AP College Board for his contribution in reading and scoring 2016 AP Spanish tests for students nationwide.
