Music, drama, sports and giving marked a busy December at Miami Christian School as a holiday band concert under the direction of Derek Shute showcased various bands and played to a packed house. At the concert, the audience enjoyed hearing the school’s first guitar ensemble perform under the direction of the guitar and drama teacher Giselle Pedraza whose drama students provided still another Christmas show a week later with the vocal performance groups, also to a sellout crowd of friends and family.

In addition to the holiday shows, the Senior Class hosted a Spaghetti Dinner to raise money for their its trip, providing food and assisting sponsors with the cooking and serving of the event attended by students, staff, families and school friends. Both Senior Class President Michael Santiago and High School Principal and Sponsor Woody Gentry were pleased with the participation and support shown by all.

A holiday appreciation party for the MCS board and staff was generously sponsored by Sam’s Club whose store manger, Bruce Siddens, provided hamburgers and with all the fixin’s for an enjoyable lunch before the school closed for the Christmas break.

Elementary school students continued to collect items for Sunil’s Home Orphanage in India, the home they’ve adopted as a special project for the last several years. Bi-annual updates from Sunil’s Home board member, Lynn Bauer, are always a special treat and one the children look forward to on a regular basis.

On the athletic front, the Miami Christian School Victors Boys’ Basketball Team was ranked ninth in the FHSAA State District 2A as the Girls’ Basketball, Mens’ Baseball, Softball, Mens’ Volleyball, and Track and Field are all coming up in the months ahead.

On the alumni scene, Miami Christian School congratulates three of its recent graduates who have entered the military: Christopher Gehring (Class’10) Air Force; ErickIvan Mendoza (’10) Air Force; and David Tamayo (’11) Army.
