With a 9-7 victory over Champagnat Catholic, Miami Christian School’s baseball team won the 2016 FHSAA Class 2A Baseball District title, meriting congratulations to the team and Coach Chris Cuadra.
To add to the excitement on the athletic front, Eduardo Camacho was chosen by the Miami Herald for its All-Dade Basketball 4A-2A First Team.
While sports teams are bringing home titles, the music department is, as well. The MCS Jazz Ensemble that performed at Music Festival USA 2016 scored a Superior rating and first place in the Jazz Open Class Division on Mar. 18 at Universal Studios in Orlando. A “Best Soloist” award was received by Victoria Vila, MCS senior. The performance
by the group included “The Girl from Ipanema” by guitarist-composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and “Four” by jazz trumpeter Miles Davis.
Speaking of honors, Victoria Vila (senior), Joshua Munoz (Grade 5) and Ana Maria Giraldo Sanchez (Grade 8) were recognized recently when each received a prestigious Independent Schools of South Florida Star Award at an Apr. 20 luncheon attended by more than 800 guests. ISSF is a coalition of the accredited private schools in South Florida and member schools are allowed to choose three students for the awards. This year’s event was again held at the Doubletree by Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center.
On the alumni front, Chrissy Stachl (‘09) has received notification from the Ford Foundation and the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine that they are going to fund her PhD as an awardee in the Foundation’s 2016 Predoctoral Fellowship Competition, administered by the Fellowships Office of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. This prestigious award reflects panelists’ judgment of Chrissy’s scholarly competence as well as the promise she demonstrates for future achievement as a scholar, researcher, and teacher in an institution of higher education. By the way, Chrissy’s undergraduate studies were funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Chrissy is just one of many amazing alumni whose success speaks to the education received at Miami Christian School.
