Jazz Band rocks

Closing out 2014, Miami Christian School had a busy two months of activities, celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Before the Thanksgiving Break on a beautiful day, students and parents enjoyed an on campus celebration that included a performance by the elementary school students, costumed appropriately for the nation’s first Thanksgiving, reciting pieces and singing songs in a colorful program followed by lots of applause and a great meal.

The MCS Jazz Band was also on hand to provide background music for the feast of specially-prepared dishes brought in by each family for the buffet.

Next up was a Senior Class-sponsored spaghetti dinner to raise funds for its senior trip followed by a wonderful Christmas Concert. Under the direction of Michelle Zanon, the Elementary Chorus kicked off the program with several Christmas pieces sung by each grade level, followed by MCS Symphonic, Concert and Jazz Bands under the direction of Derek Shute. As always, the audience was amazed by the students’ superior ability.

Harvey Cruz, of the local Wells Fargo branch, visited Greys Buitrago’s Social Studies classes to provide students with the presentation that included maintaining good credit, applying for loans, lines of credit, credit cards, debt to income ratio, keeping up with monthly payments and checking credit scores — all of which intrigued the students.
