Whether you enjoy meeting like-minded people who love the environment or have a “green thumb” when it comes to gardening, you will enjoy being part of a vital volunteer community that is helping to keep the grounds beautiful and the trees and flowering plants blooming at Miami-Dade County Parks’ world-class botanical gardens — Preston B. Bird/Mary Heinlein Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187 Ave. in Homestead.
Volunteers will enjoy free park admission, as they lend their time and talents working alongside fellow residents and supervising horticulturalists in preserving the treasured attraction. No experience is necessary. Training will be provided.
The volunteer program is open to high school and college students (including university clubs/fraternities and sororities), as well as civic and corporate groups that want to work for a day, a week, a month, or year-round. This is a great way for students to earn community service hours and for everyone to experience impactful community service, as they develop horticulture and gardening skills.
Volunteers will be assigned age-appropriate hands-on work. Work times will be pre-arranged. Participants should be prepared for the outdoors, bringing their own water, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Fruit & Spice Park grows more than 500 varieties of sub-tropical fruits, herbs, spices, vegetables and nuts from around the world on 39 lush acres in the agricultural Redland. The park offers daily botanical tours, fruit tasting and naturalist led workshops.
