As Miami Christian School ends the school year, accolades abound for students and faculty alike, beginning with the MCS Jazz Band returning from Orlando with a First Place trophy won at the Music USA Festival 2015 at Universal Studios. Kudos to Band Director Derek Shute and jazz band members who included Nina Beam, Christine Rosillo, Chris Abello, Cody Stevens, Sharon Berkley, Marian Alvery, Elizabeth Rosillo, Andres Valdes, Jeffrey Yaniz, and Alina Andrews.
On the sports front, several MCS Victor baseball members were named to the Class 2A-15 All-District Team: Sebastian Dayoub, Jordan Gonzalez, Lazaro Gonzalez, J. C. Llaser, Chris Otero, Yoel Rojas and Aldo Ripley. In addition, Gonzalez was named “Hitter of the Year”; Llaser was named “Pitcher of the Year” and Gonzalez made the 2015 Seniors All-Star Private School Team. Also on the athletic front, MCS coaches were in the news. Coach Chris Cuadro won District 2-A 2015 Baseball Coach of the Year, as well as Coach of the All Star Private School Team. Still another coach standout: Andrew Moran, named The Miami Herald Basketball Coach of the Year in 4A-2A. Congratulations to both of these fine men!
MCS parents recently made their voices heard through a contest conducted by South Florida Parenting Magazine by nominating their student’s teacher to be the Teacher of the Month. Raixa Rafuls, Third Grade teacher, not only won the Teacher of the Month for April but subsequently won “South Florida Parenting Magazine’s “Rockin’ Teacher of the Year.” As an added bonus, she was interviewed on NBC/6 by Roxanne Vargas about her teaching successes.
Other accolades went out to MCS First Grade Teacher, Joanna Clark, who was a Christian Chamber of Greater Miami Teacher Honoree for 2015. Clark, along with teachers from Palmer Trinity, Westminster, and Florida Christian, were honored at a Pinecrest reception citing Clark’s outstanding service and dedication (above and beyond the classroom) to MCS students. P. S. Look for more end of the year graduation news in the July Doral Tribune.
