Neighboring Hialeah community celebrates first ever Pride, Oct. 7

So many people in the community are frustrated by the ongoing attacks on the gay community. But in these trying political times, it’s important to not lose sight of the progress being made in new places.

The residents of Doral’s neighboring City of Hialeah – considered to be the 4th most conservative city in the country – are embracing equality as they organize its first-ever Pride, a victory for the LGBTQ community in Miami-Dade County.

Organizers with Equality Florida are inviting gay and straight members of the community to be part of history on Oct. 7, 1 – 7 p.m., by joining thousands of others celebrating diversity, inclusion, and progress. The event happens at Historic Hialeah Park, 2200 E 4th Ave, Hialeah, FL 33013.

Hialeah Pride is a critical opportunity for Equality Florida to connect with our LGBTQ community and to recruit the next wave of advocates and activists to resist anti-LGBTQ attacks on our friends and families,” says Tiffany Richards Field Organizer with Equality Florida.

“Spend a few hours with us to educate our community about the issues that matter.”

Equality Florida is also looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are excited to talk with LGBTQ supporters, collect petitions, recruit volunteers, and help to register voters.

“Not only will we refuse to allow our victories to be turned back, we’re going to fight for the full recognition of our humanity and equality,” Richards added.
