Communities in Schools of Miami (CIS of Miami) hosted its 29th annual fundraising, supporting educational programs and services that help over 20,000 South Florida students each year to succeed in and out of school.
Themed “Sailing for Success,” this year’s event on April 14 was presented by Publix Super Markets Charities at the Intercontinental at Doral Miami.
The event created a family-friendly atmosphere to commemorate CIS’s dedication to empowering students through mentoring, tutoring, skills development, and community resources. Event sponsors also included City National Bank, FP&L, JP Morgan Chase, and Mercedes Benz of Coral Gables.
“We are so excited our annual fundraiser was such a smooth sailing event,” said Elyssa Linares, the President and CEO of CIS of Miami. “Every year, with the fundraiser’s proceeds, we are able to reach more and more children in need and make a lasting impact on their education and daily life.”
Communities in Schools of Miami works to understand individual student barriers and provide a holistic range of services, removing these barriers so students can focus on their education.
“Trust me when I say we do whatever it takes,” Linares continued. “Thousands of students benefit each year with 95 percent of elementary students reading at grade level, 98 percent of elementary and middle school being promoted to the next grade level, and 98 percent of all CIS students staying in school.”
Guests will also enjoy a delicious buffet dinner, activities for both children and adults, silent auctions, craft sales, and live entertainment. They also were encouraged to dress in casual cruise wear.
The silent auction luxury items including vacation packages, hotel stays, theme park tickets, adventure packages, restaurant gift certificates, spa treatments, jewelry, and sports memorabilia.
