A “Kick-off Reception” on Dec. 3 filled the City of Doral Government Center with excitement as the community came together to help organize the 2014 Relay for Life of Doral and the fight against cancer.
Relay Honorary Chair and Doral Councilwoman Sandra Ruiz welcomed residents, businesses, and the 2014 Relay for Life of Doral Committee Members, as fund raising goals and the theme for 2014 was unveiled: “Doral City – Building a Cancer- Free Community.”
Cancer survivors shared stories and struggles, inspiring everyone present, including Mayor Luigi Boria, Vice Mayor Christi Fraga, and 2013 Honorary Chair Ana Maria Rodriguez.
The 2014 Relay for Life of Doral will be held at JC Bermudez Park on April 25. The community is encouraged to come together, get involved with this event and help with this cause.

Jamie Fischer, Event Chair Involved 10+ Years
Relay for Life of Doral Chairperson, Jamie Fischer, a teacher at Divine Savior Academy, has been involved with Relay for Life for over ten years.
“When my father was diagnosed with cancer, my kids and I started participating in Relay for Life. We have some wonderful memories of participating with him,” recalled Fischer. “Now that he’s gone, Relay for Life is a way I can honor his memory and show support to others who are either going through cancer themselves or helping a loved one through it.”
Relay for Life of Doral on April 25 “isn’t just a one-night event”, encourages Fischer. “The months leading up to the event are full of planning, smaller events, and awareness-raising. You can register a team, and that team can start fundraising right now.” Doral businesses are welcome to participate by sponsoring a team or by donating goods, services or cash donations, she added.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the annual outpouring of donations and love that the Doral community always gives to the Relay for Life program. I’m blessed to be a part of this amazing city!” Fischer added.
