The City of Doral Asks for Resident Involvement at the December 3rd County Commission Meeting for Waste to Energy Incinerator

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

For years, the City of Doral’s leadership and residents have come together, imploring Miami-Dade County to relocate the incinerator outside of our community where it would no longer cause detrimental wellness, health and quality of life affects to our families.

During a special meeting held on November 4th, the City Council unanimously instructed the City’s administration and attorneys to take all action necessary to prohibit the relocation of the incinerator in Doral, and provide a good faith offer of $40 million for its relocation.

“We are disappointed to learn of the newly released report by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava where she recommends that the new incinerator be rebuilt in Doral,” stated Mayor Christi Fraga. “We will continue to fight for what is right and fair for our community.”

The City’s leadership remains committed to doing whatever possible to work with Miami-Dade County to see that the incinerator is moved to a more suitable location where so many families are not affected, and a location that provides a long-term, sustainable solution for all County residents.

Now is not the time to give up! We must remain united, active, and engaged as a community, fighting for this important and common goal. We ask that the community take part in the discussion on Tuesday, December 3rd, as the Miami-Dade County’s Board of Commissioners will discuss the facility and ultimately make a decision on its future location. This meeting is open to the public and you are invited to attend, as the City of Doral’s leadership will also be present in their continued efforts to have the incinerator moved outside of our community where it would no longer harm the health and quality of life of our residents.

The City will be providing two buses for transport from Doral Government Center (8401 NW 53rd Terrace) to Miami-Dade County’s Stephen P. Clark Government Center (first come, first serve). Residents are asked to arrive at the Doral Government Center by 6:30 a.m. on December 3rdbuses will depart promptly at 7:00 a.m. Free parking will be available in the Doral Government Center parking garage.
