Thousands of families came together at Doral Central Park today for one of the most
anticipated events of the season—the annual Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway, hosted by City of Doral Mayor Christi Fraga and Miami-Dade County District 5 School Board Member Danny Espino.
Now in its latest edition, this high-energy event drew more than 3,000 attendees and provided over 2,000 free backpacks to students, along with school supplies and nearly 50 teacher appreciation kits to local educators. The event once again solidified its place as one of the largest and most impactful back-to-school celebrations in South Florida.
“This event is always so much more than just giving out backpacks—it’s about lifting up our
students, showing up for our families, and reminding everyone what makes Doral so special: our unity, our heart, and our commitment to each other,” said Mayor Christi Fraga. “I’m always filled with pride seeing our community come together like this.”
Families also enjoyed a full slate of free resources and activities, including:
• Haircuts for students provided by The Barbering Academy
• Strength-building sports activities from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital
• Face painting, games, and a live DJ
• Food trucks and community performances
• On-site services from the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office, helping residents access expedited driver license appointments
School Board Member Danny Espino added, “Making sure our students start the year off strong—equipped and confident—is a shared mission, and we’re proud to support our community in this meaningful way.”
The success of the event was made possible by the generous support of our community partners and sponsors, who provided resources, school supplies, and hands-on assistance throughout the day. Their commitment and collaboration played a key role in making this event such a meaningful experience for Doral families.
