The South Florida Chapter of Autism Speaks has selected Vice Mayor Ana Maria Rodriguez as Champion for Autism. Moved by the mission of this important organization in the community, the Vice Mayor will play an active role to increase awareness and public involvement.
“About one percent of the world’s population has autism spectrum disorder. I am honored to champion for Autism and to advocate for those in our community affected by it,” said Rodriguez.
“My goal is to help raise funds to support individuals with autism and to motivate all Doral residents to join us at the organization’s annual walk in April.”
On April 29, the City of Doral hosts the 2018 Miami Walk Now for Autism Speaks. With Registration starting at 7:30 a.m., followed with the Opening Ceremony at 8:30 a.m., the walk steps off at 10 a.m.
“Powered by love, this fun-filled, family event brings thousands together to walk the park in efforts to change the future for all who struggle with autism,” she added.
Walk Now for Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest grassroots autism walk program, is Autism Speaks’ signature fundraising and awareness event, taking place in communities across the U.S. and Canada.
Powered by volunteers and families who have loved ones on the autism spectrum, along with local businesses and companies that employ those on the spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.
