Doral teachers Ms. Deborah Cabral and Ms. Ilsia Castellon earned gift cards and supplies to support their students and classrooms
Westend on 87th, a retail destination in the heart of Doral, is proud to recognize and celebrate two local teachers as a result of its 2nd Annual Back-to-School Teacher Recognition and Classroom Supply Drive. The annual recognition invites the public to nominate local teachers working in the City of Doral who continuously go above and beyond for their students for a chance to win gift cards and supplies to support their classroom needs during the upcoming school year.
“As a longtime business owner and mother, our annual teacher recognition and classroom supply drive is one of my favorite ways to support our local community. Teachers play such a significant role in the lives of students and families, and I am grateful for the important work they do. We received several impressive and inspiring nominations, leading us to recognize not one but two special teachers this year,” said Silvia J Fernandez, Westend’s Managing Director.
This year’s winning teacher Ms. Deborah Cabral, preschool teacher at Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 in Doral, was awarded a $250 Amazon gift card courtesy of Westend on 87th as well as classroom supplies generously donated by members of the community and Westend on 87 tenants, including Eparepa Doral.
According to those who nominated her, “Ms. Cabral is an extraordinary teacher. She loves all her students and wants each of them to have the best day, every day. She has a big heart and gives 100% of herself in every lesson.”
Ms. Ilsia Castellon, a math teacher at J.C. Bermudez Senior High School, also earned a $50 Amazon gift card from Westend on 87th to support her classroom’s needs.
Ms. Castellon’s nomination credited her as “a guiding force that inspires her students to reach their full potential and encourages them to be the best version of themselves.”
The back-to-school teacher recognition and classroom supply drive is just one of several ways Westend on 87 actively supports the community throughout the year, with a focus on wellness and youths. The female-led, family-owned shopping center has served the Doral community for over 20 years and takes pride in being a community partner.
“I am thrilled that so many members of the community contributed to the success of this year’s teacher recognition and supply drive. I am grateful to each person who took time to nominate a special teacher in their life as well as to our Westend on 87 tenants and members of our wellness community who contributed supplies,” added Fernandez. “I look forward to recognizing and supporting more deserving local teachers next year.”
Nominations for next year’s teacher recognition will open in late July/early August 2024.
