Westend on 87th brings community together throughout 2023
Westend on 87th – the family owned and operated retail destination that has served the Doral community for more than 20 years – is celebrating the holiday season with joy as it looks back on a year filled with wonderful memories.
Throughout the year, Westend on 87th welcomed guests of all ages to enjoy free events onsite as well as ventured offsite to reach even more members of the community with the goal of supporting whole health and wellness within The City of Doral.
2023 marked the second year of Westend’s Well at Westend initiative, the popular holistic wellness series that offers complimentary health, wellness, and fitness classes regularly. Well at Westend is an official partnership with The City of Doral and Step Up Your Health, Doral. Activities included yoga, meditation, Zumba and Mandala Art Workshops.
Westend also hosted its first ever center-wide job fair in 2023, helping tenant businesses fill key roles by connecting them with job-seekers in the community.
Recognizing the important role teachers play in the success of communities, Westend once again recognized a local educator as part of its teacher recognition and classroom supply drive. The public was invited to nominate special teachers within The City of Doral, and following careful review, two deserving teachers received gift cards and supplies donated by Westend and its tenants as well as the community.
Westend also continued a partnership with Ronald W. Reagan/Doral Senior High School, proudly recognizing 20 students as No Place for Hate Role Models. Westend provided each student with a $25 Amazon gift card and school supplies for their roles in making their school a No Place for Hate learning environment where every student can feel safe and valued.
In October, Westend celebrated its third Fall Festival event featuring School of Rock Doral, one of Westend on 87th’s newest tenants, who headlined the event with their house band performing a live concert for about 150 guests of all ages. In addition to the live performances, this year’s Fall Festival featured trick or treating, craft projects, a balloon artist, face painting, raffle prizes, and more.
In December, Westend again unveiled its winter wonderland decor in the outdoor courtyard, providing a festive space for outdoor dining, relaxing and family photos during the holiday season.
In addition to hosting community events, Westend enjoys supporting its tenants and their events.
The year wrapped up with Smoke This, the 21st annual event hosted by Sabor Havana Cigars co-founders Jorge Luis Valdes and Aquiles Legra. Sabor Havana opened in Doral in 1992 and is one of Westend’s longest standing tenants. Smoke This is an exciting and dynamic experience for cigar enthusiasts from around the region. The highly anticipated event draws more than 300 people to the shopping center for a memorable experience featuring some of the most highly regarded cigars, tobacco products, food and spirits.
