FreeEmpowering Youth for Success: Dreamcatchers for the Soul Foundation Announces 11th Annual Children of the Lotus Back to School Retreat
Miramar, FL – Dreamcatchers for the Soul Foundation, Inc. (DCFTS) is thrilled to announce its 11th Annual Children of the Lotus Back to School Retreat, scheduled to take place on August 3, 2024, at Miramar Multi-Complex Center. This is not your ordinary back-to-school retreat—this is a holistic approach to back to school, offering an array of enriching experiences to empower youth and families across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties with essential tools for mental and physical well-being as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
Under the theme “I AM POWERFUL,” this year’s retreat focuses on instilling self-confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and leadership skills in youth aged 5 to 18, alongside their parents. Attendees will benefit from trauma-responsive mindfulness workshops led by certified facilitators, where they will learn to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression effectively, setting the stage for a successful academic year ahead.
In addition to the empowering workshops, parents can enjoy free massages, sound bowl therapy, and Reiki healing sessions, creating a holistic experience for the entire family. Licensed therapists will also be on hand to provide services to youth, teens, and their parents, ensuring comprehensive support for mental health and well-being.
“As we witness alarming trends in teen suicide rates, it’s imperative that we equip our youth with the resources they need to thrive,” said Pamella Reid, Executive Director of DCFTS. “Our retreat serves as a beacon of hope, providing a safe space for families to come together, learn, and grow.”
The retreat will feature workshops such as “I am Worthy,” “Tapping into Your Power,” and “I Take Responsibility for Myself,” tailored to address the unique needs of children and teens in today’s challenging environment. By fostering a sense of empowerment and self-awareness, DCFTS aims to create a community where every child feels valued and supported.
“While the pandemic may be over, its impact on our youth lingers,” added Reid. “Now more than ever, we must prioritize mental health and well-being as we navigate the transition to a post-pandemic era.”
DCFTS is proud to present an impressive lineup of speakers for this year’s retreat, including:
Dr. Sharetta (Jones) Remikie – Chief Equity and Community Engagement Officer, Children’s Services Council
Monalisa Weber – Founder of Probation Station, Author, Professor, and Mindfulness Instructor
