Orchestra Miami Adds New Concert Series to its Repertoire. Two Concerts in a Beautiful New Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church Downtown
Orchestra Miami is excited to announce the addition of a new series to their free concert schedule. Dubbed The Downtowner Series, it’s a collaboration with the support of the First United Methodist Church of Miami slated for April 14 and May 19 at 2 PM.
“The idea behind this intimate series was to pair the outstanding musicians of Orchestra Miami with local professional opera singers to present intimate concerts of a broad range of styles,” says Elaine Rinaldi, Artistic Director of Orchestra Miami.
Taking place on Sunday afternoons at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Miami, the first concert on April 14 will celebrate the 110th birthday of British composer “Benjamin Britten” with an all-Britten program that includes the famous Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and strings featuring Gerardo Jose Ortega, tenor and Stanley Spinola, Horn. The program is also the Canticle N. 2: Abraham and Isaac Op. 51 featuring tenor David Margulis as Abraham and Counter Tenor Victor Bento as Issac, the Simple Symphony, Op. 4, and the Fanfare for St Edmundsbury for three trumpets. The string ensemble of Orchestra Miami will perform, conducted by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.
The second concert on May 19 is “Cabaret” and will feature Cabaret music by classical composers, such as Benjamin Britten, William Bolcolm, Kurt Weill, and more. A featured piece on the program will be the spectacular “Café Music” by Paul Schoenfeld, featuring Karen Lord-Powell, violinist, Aaron Merritt, Cellist, and Elaine Rinaldi on the piano.
These are free concerts with donations greatly appreciated. Space is limited, so guests are asked to make a reservation online at www.OrchestraMiami.org.
