Edge Collections Wallpaper Installation with Cristina Lei Rodriguez at the Bass Museum of Art
December 1, 2014 @ 3:00 pm - December 30, 2014 @ 3:00 pm
EDGE Collections, a design and manufacturing house that specializes in large-format production of custom wallpapers, tiles, and textiles, is collaborating with contemporary artist Cristina Lei Rodriguez on an installation at the Bass Museum of Art
Limestone Bearing Gold Veins, commissioned by the Bass Museum of Art, features faux limestone rock made from common materials and glue infused with gold leaf and gold metallic powder. While made in the image of a natural material found throughout South Florida––and on top of which Miami Beach itself is built––the faux limestone is complex and painstakingly handmade. The installation, which includes a wallpapered archway and two benches positioned at the intersection of the museum’s original 1930 building and its modern addition, mimics Miami’s geological makeup while also addressing the city’s architectural and design strategies aimed at portraying grandeur and power.
