Miami Bus Stop Stories: Tropical Dreams

February 13 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Juggerknot Theatre Company (@juggerknow_theatre_company), South Florida’s leader in immersive theatre, invites audiences to take the “next stop” in Miami Bus Stop Stories with Tropical Dreams at the HistoryMiami Museum for two shows each day on Feb. 13 and Feb. 16, 2025. This live, interactive experience brings Miami’s rich cultural evolution to life through the museum’s permanent “Tropical Dreams” exhibition, which explores the city’s birth, growth and the resilience of its communities. Tickets are free with museum admission and available now at HistoryMiami Museum. School groups interested in special educational performances can email Olgasabrina Rueda at orueda@historymiami.org for more information.

Building on the success of the original Miami Bus Stop Stories – Virtual Edition, this latest iteration delves into the creation of Miami, offering an immersive journey through pivotal moments that defined the city. Audiences will travel back in time, stepping into a living narrative where actors transform the museum space into a vibrant tableau of Miami’s history. From its early days shaped by Bahamian settlers to the transformative waves of migration and cultural fusion, Miami Bus Stop Stories: Tropical Dreams explores the people, places and events that made Miami what it is today.

Through vivid storytelling and live performances, participants meet key historical figures and witness the events that forged Miami’s unique identity. Audiences will encounter pioneering women like Julia Tuttle, known as the “Mother of Miami” for her pivotal role in the city’s founding, and Mary Brickell, a significant landowner and businesswoman who, alongside her husband, contributed to Miami’s early development. Additionally, audiences will “meet” L.E. Thomas who was deeply involved in community organizing, helping to establish Virginia Key Beach as a symbol of resilience and pride for Miami’s Black community.

“Immersive theatre allows us to step into history, not as spectators, but as participants,” says Tanya Bravo, artistic director of Juggerknot Theatre Company. “With Miami Bus Stop Stories: Tropical Dreams, we’re inviting audiences to walk through the moments and places that shaped Miami’s story. By immersing them directly into the past, we aim to provide a profound understanding of our city’s rich history and how it continues to shape our present and future.”

Audiences can expect a dynamic, educational adventure that blends theatrical storytelling with the museum’s historical context, creating an experience that is both entertaining and enlightening. Students, families and adults alike will be captivated by the layers of Miami’s story as they unfold before their eyes.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Juggerknot Theatre Company on this immersive experience,” said Natalia Crujeiras, CEO and Executive Director of HistoryMiami Museum. “This program aligns perfectly with our mission to connect people by sharing Miami stories, fostering learning, and inspiring a sense of place.”
