Sanctuary of the Arts and New Canon Chamber Collective bring back a holiday favorite! The Duke Ellington Jazz Nutcracker & Holiday Concert! Bringing a whole new twist to an old tradition, audience members will groove to the liveliest, most toe-tapping Nutcracker in town as New Canon’s 18 piece big band orchestra swings these time honored holiday songs arranged by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. A welcome reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s original score, as well as a score of other holiday favorites.
Dancers from our Choreographic Ensemble training program will add zing to the night with exhilarating and memorable dance performances! “The Ellington-Strayhorn version is a genuine reimagining, both faithful and original. Through it, two brilliant musicians tip their hat to a predecessor by making his music their own.” -Brian Seibert, The New York Times New Canon Chamber Collective, founded in 2021 by Portia Dunkley, addresses the urgency of providing greater diversity, inclusion, representation, and equity for South Florida classical musicians and their audiences.
