Deering Estate announces theme for 2023 Christmas holiday décor
Deering Estate holiday décor theme features “Holidays in Wonderland: A Lewis Carroll Story.”

As part of the annual Historic Holiday Décor, this season the Deering Estate celebrates the holidays through the looking glass with décor inspired by the fantastical world of Lewis Carroll.

Led by Deering Estate Designer-in-Residence Alfredo Brito, each room of the Stone House and Richmond Cottage will feature whimsical holiday decorations by premier local interior designers that will bring to life the colorful characters and topsy-turvy world of Wonderland.

Carroll’s beloved characters, including Alice, White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts, will be featured in several historic rooms, galleries, and hand-decorated holiday trees. Brito has emphasized that this year’s Holiday Décor is dedicated to the children and the child in all of us.

So don’t be surprised if you bump into the Queen of Hearts in the Great Hall, the Mad Hatter in the Richmond Cottage, or Lewis Carroll himself in the library in an imagined recreation of Carroll’s literary studio, and many other surprises. For Brito, this season will “definitely be a Holiday In Wonderland.”

Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, was an English author, poet, and mathematician known for his beloved books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass, And What Alice Found There (1872).

The Deering Estate’s holiday decor includes over a dozen holiday trees, from the grand 17-foot tree in the great hall to others throughout the historic houses that will be lavishly decorated to accentuate the architectural details and fine furnishings of the historic structures. Each room is thoughtfully designed and dressed by a cadre of award-winning professional interior designers, led by Deering Estate Designer in Residence, Alfredo Brito.

The Historic Holiday Décor will be on display daily Friday, Nov. 24, 2023-Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. Note that Deering Estate is closed on Christmas Day.

Celebrate the holidays at the Deering Estateand create memorable traditions with family and friends at an exciting lineup of programs and events. Also be sure to mark your calendars for the sixth annual Mistletoe & Martinis event on Friday, Dec. 8. More information is coming soon.

The Deering Estate is located at 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Palmetto Bay.
