A new restaurant and neighborhood gathering place recently opened in South Miami in the corner space formerly occupied by the beloved eatery Town Kitchen and Bar.

Open since November 12th, Kitchen 57 is the brainchild of Michael Altman, who was executive chef and managing partner of Town for 13 years. Described as a modern American, full-service restaurant and bar, Kitchen 57 features a New York industrial décor, with exposed bricks, iron shelving and grates, distressed brown couches and black barstools.

“South Miami has needed a place where you can see familiar faces after a school day or a baseball game, for date night or a business lunch,” says Altman. “Kitchen 57 is a warm and welcoming restaurant and bar where the food and service are great and the prices are reasonable.”

Rather than try to reinvent the wheel, Altman says he has created a menu that features some former Town favorites such as crispy Brussels sprouts with lemon garlic aioli.

“Due to popular demand, there are some familiar dishes on the menu but also a number of my new creations,” he says with a smile. “So many of our former customers have told us how happy they are that Kitchen 57 has opened in the spot where they used to see their friends on a regular basis.”

Among the main plate favorites are Altman’s baby back ribs with hand-cut fries and house slaw and his chicken parmesan with linguini, ricotta, mozzarella and red sauce. From the grill, Kitchen 57 specializes in steaks such as ribeye, petit filet, New York strip and churrasco, as well as salmon and chicken breast.

A favorite lunchtime item is the popular short rib grilled cheese sandwich featuring aged white cheddar cheese, brie and spicy tomato jam on challah bread. rye bread

Kitchen 57 is a family affair; Altman’s wife Cari helps behind the scenes while their daughter is a host and their son a busser. Altman is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who honed his skills in fine Manhattan restaurants before moving to Miami in 2005.

Kitchen 57 is open seven days a week from 11 am to closing. In January, brunch service will be available. The restaurant also offers a separate room for private dining and events.

“My goal in opening Kitchen 57 was to give the people what they want, a neighborhood gathering place serving terrific food and drinks.”

Kitchen 57 is located at 7301 SW 57th Court in South Miami. For more information, please visit www.kitchen57miami.com.
