A Blast From Miami High Past

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Special thanks to Cindy Smith Proteau who sent this photo of an official program from a game between Miami High and Central High School of Chattanooga, Tennessee played at the Orange Bowl on October 15, 1948. Cindy found it at a flea market in Sevierville, TN. Miami High won the game 28-7. From the 1930s through the early 1950s, Miami Senior High School was the undisputed kings of prep football in the city and state. The Stingarees went 26 years without losing a game against a team from Dade County from 1925 to 1951. Miami High was so dominant, they often played schools from out of state to find decent competition and even had its own charter plane. In 1948, the Stingarees finished with a 6-2-1 record. Five of those games were against teams from Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky. They were perfect against local schools beating Miami Beach 42-6, Miami Jackson 28-0 and Miami Edison 33-6, while playing all of their home games at the Orange Bowl. To read more stories about the Orange Bowl, visit us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ghostsoftheorangebowl
