A Chili Day in Cutler Bay event draws thousands

The Town of Cutler Bay’s annual chili cook-off event, Chili Day in Cutler Bay, took place on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Cutler Ridge Park and drew an estimated 3,000-4,000 people to enjoy the day, sample the chili and participate in the cook-off judging. And it was indeed a “chilly day,” with low temperatures in the 40s.

Besides the chili, other food was available for purchase and hometown band Cutler Stew played live music for entertainment.

The official judging team gave out awards to winners in the following categories:

Restaurant Division
Best Chili: Hole in the Wall
Best Salsa: Hole in the Wall

Best Decorated Booth
Comfy Homes

Corn Bread:
First place — Team 305
Second place — Flava Unit
Third place — Traveling Tailgaters

Salsa:
First place — MDCFD 34- Cutler Ridge Rats
Second place — Third Place Corn Bread
Third place – SanderHann

Chili:
First place — Team 305
Second place — Traveling Tailgaters
Third place — SanderHann

Firehouse Chili:
Hialeah Fire Department

People’s Choice Awards were voted on by everyone attending the event and were presented in the following categories:
First Place Salsa — Cooking Rays
Second Place Salsa — Chicon Salsa
First Place Chili — Third place Cornbread
Second Place Chili — Hialeah Fire Department
