A Day at the Farm

Smiles, pure joy, and deepest gratitude can perfectly summarize a “Day at the Farm”, an event where more than 60 children with disabilities and terminal illnesses, who are sponsored by The Miami Power Team Foundation, had the opportunity to experience an unforgettable day.

Since 1995, this organization has been devoted to giving hope and extending a helping hand to children from our local community who are suffering from terminal illnesses, cancer, autism, Down syndrome, physical disabilities, and visual impairments. Due to their disabilities, some children had not been able to ride a horse or a pony before, but activities like a “Day at The Farm” make it possible for them to realize their dreams.

In order to take out a child from his/her wheelchair, lift him/her up, and sit him/her in a horse or pony, the help of 3-4 volunteers is a must. The volunteers carefully hold the child from both sides in order to protect him/her, and with love and empathy they work hard to ensure that the child’s wish of riding a horse or a pony for the first time comes true. “The outcome of helping make a dream come true is wonderful: happiness and a smile that will never be forgotten, not by the child, not by the parents, and certainly not by the volunteers”.

The Miami Power Team Foundation plans and organizes monthly activities for these special children. These activities include: arts & craft day, birthday parties, toys giveaways, finding friends for children who have never had a friend, sports, music, and every four months the previously mentioned “Day at The Farm”, a delightful encounter with nature and its animals.

“A Day at The Farm” was made possible by The Miami Power Team Foundation, and thanks to a group of volunteers who donated their time and services: Osvaldo Sotolongo and Lilian De La Cruz who gladly lent their farm, Tuti Fruty the clown, Carlos Martin who lent his two ponies, Monty’s Party Rental donated the tables and chairs, and Pizza Hut, the foundation’s loyal friend, that donated the delicious pizzas and sodas. For 19 years Pizza Hut has made monthly donations by providing The Miami Power Team Foundation with all the pizzas, desserts, and sodas that are necessary for each activity. Like Pizza Hut, other sponsors have joined the efforts of The Miami Power Team Foundation to help accomplish the organization’s goals; these are: Colombus Capital Lending, Orestes Lorenzo, and Superior Claims Consultant, Inc.

The Miami Power Team Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. For 21 years, its founders and directors have never received a salary or form of pay. This organization does not receive government funds; all activities are made possible with private donations.
