Miami Autism Dad Victor Antunez interviews Anthony Gonzalez, MD, a robotic and bariatric surgeon, and Dorcas Gonzalez, host of La Vida Xcepcional, parents to 3 sons who all have Fragile X syndrome and are on the autism spectrum. They take us back to the day they learned the diagnosis, and to the harder discovery that followed for Dorcas, that she was most likely the carrier of the Fragile X gene, and the grief and guilt that came with it. Anthony, a physician who spent his career understanding the human body, describes what it was like to hear this about his own children, and why he now makes a point of reaching the fathers this conversation so often leaves out. Dorcas shares how her faith turned that pain into purpose, the line she lives by now, that a diagnosis is information not limitation, and the work she does on the board of the de Moya Foundation, which has put more than 100 young adults with unique abilities, including Fragile X, into real jobs, the same future she’s building for her own 3 boys.
