Hello Friends & Neighbors, I am grateful to be able to reach you through this medium once again. Thank you for your continuous support.

The month of June was recognized as Caribbean American Heritage Month, and I had the pleasure of kicking it off with a media launch showcasing our Caribbean Heritage activities for the month with music and entertainment. We closed out the month with a little Taste of the Caribbean Islands at Vizcaya Park. A fun time was had by all as we incorporated new aspects this year with an art and book fair as well as culinary demos.

I am pleased to have worked alongside the City of Miramar’s Economic Development & Revitalization team, Business Inclusion & Diversity (BID) program, in partnership with the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce to host the Biz Fit Roadshow and Virtual Workshop 2022. The Biz Fit workshop is designed to help small businesses start, operate and expand in Miramar. The Biz Fit Roadshow and workshop offered businesses free information, resources and incentives available to area businesses.

On July 17th , in association with Anzora’s Foundation, I hosted Gospel Groove Sunday featuring the Stellar Award-nominated Williams Singers from Indianapolis, Indiana, Comedian Natasha Calloway, Psalmist Ernest Gonder and other local artists at the Miramar Cultural Center. This event was created to bring awareness and raise money for mental health. Attendees enjoyed a spectacular spirit-filled show all while supporting this worthy cause and patronizing our vendors and food trucks.

We kicked off the month of August with community and Public Safety as we recognized National Night Out on August 2nd in the city of Miramar. It truly was a great evening for our public safety officers to mix and mingle with members of our community from the western suburbs all the way to our eastern historic neighborhoods.

Jamaica’s 60th Independence weekend was one to be cherished. I had a blast showcasing Jamaican pride with the colors of the flag across our city from the eastern/historic Water Tower to the central City Hall palm trees and finally our western Marquee sign and monument! The Jamaican cultural heritage was on full display as we danced the night away in all Black, Green and Gold celebrating 60 glorious years of Independence at our Jamaica 60th Independence Day Fete held on August 5th . It was a pleasure to have Stone Love perform and commemorate their 50th anniversary. During our Fun and Laughter intermissions, four lucky winners received roundtrip Spirit vouchers to any destination of their choosing! In partnership with Grace Foods, we also gave away Grace Food baskets to ten golden winners of our trivia. Attendees whined and dinned with our fantastic vendors who provided food, festivities, and fun. It was important for me to teach my son his heritage and so it was great to see so many parents with their children teaching them about the Jamaican culture right here in Miramar!

On August 9th , I had the pleasure of visiting the home of the former Consul General of The UK Nicolette Brent, who traded her post for a new one while we welcomed Consul General Rufus Drabble. We look forward to having the Consul General in attendance during the Black British Heritage Celebration on October 29th and future collaborations.

It’s always a proud moment in the City of Miramar when we can join our business owners in officially opening their establishments! Congratulations Valeria on opening two businesses in the central area of the city; Smoothie Babe & Elevate Mortgage!

On Thursday, August 10th , I took the time to celebrate Ecuador’s Independence Day at the Miramar Cultural Center Theatre with the Consul General of Ecuador and his citizens. I had an amazing time! I am in awe of classical cultural ballads. Viva Ecuador!

During the second week of August, I had the pleasure of attending the Florida League of Cities Conference in the City of Hollywood as the league celebrated its 100th year. It was good to get together with colleagues from all over the state to share best practices and collectively move our cities forward!

The Soggy Doggy event on August 14th at our aquatic park was such a gift to our canines and their owners. Our parks department staff went all out to ensure both the small dogs and larger dogs who had different time slots were entertained with music, an ice cream truck (humans only) and photo props!

Summer vacation officially came to an end on August 16th as we opened the school doors for another school year. Thank you to Broward County Schools Superintendent, Vickie L. Cartwright for inviting me to welcome our Miramar students back to the classroom and celebrate the first day of school. I was happy to support the teachers, administrators & staff with the carpool at A.C. Perry Elementary and New Renaissance Middle school. I pray that this school year is epic!

I started my day on a high note with the graduation of our newest firefighters in the city on August 18th . I must say, the newest recruits were a very diverse group of men and women and I wish them every success in their new career.

Trinidad & Tobago Independence Day was celebrated on August 31st . I enjoyed celebrating Trinidad & Tobago 60th Independence Day on the front lawns of City Hall. We had great food, great music and great company.

Having been born and raised over the years in England, l must say the queen was a stable figure in the country irrespective of the ruling political party; she was always a constant, leading humbly from behind the scenes most times. She will be missed. We will be celebrating the contributions of Black Britons in the month of October as the city continues to recognize our cultural diversity.

On 9/11 we remembered and reflected on the victims, survivors and loved ones of the 9|11 tragedy. Let us be kind to each other remembering that we are our brother’s keeper.

September 14th was another beautiful day in the neighborhood as we worked alongside the Red Cross, Miramar Fire-Rescue, citizens and corporate volunteers to install lifesaving smoke detectors in homes! We were able install alarms in 70 homes!

On September 15th I along with the Executive Staff, had the opportunity to tour the CBS4 news station in Doral. It was indeed a pleasure as we sought to ensure that the good news stories of Miramar are told. A special thank you to General Manager, Darryl Green and his team for hosting us!
