Each year the neighborhood of Mangowood in Palmetto Bay, originally developed in 1958 and celebrated for its vibrant community spirit, hosts a Santa Parade in which the residents all get involved. Saturday, Dec. 20, was no exception with Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham and District 1 Councilmember Patrick Fiore attending.

“The annual Mangowood Christmas parade never disappoints,” Mayor Cunningham said.

“This was my last as mayor. It won’t be my last as a citizen of the village. It was especially meaningful sharing it alongside Councilmember Patrick Fiore, who represents the district I live in and has served alongside me for the last seven-plus years. Parades like this are more than a celebration — they’re moments where neighbors connect, traditions live on, and our community truly feels like family.”

Decorated golf carts, food and festivities, and of course Santa Claus, delighted children and adults alike.

For Councilmember Fiore the event had special significance.

“It’s been a wonderful event, put on by the board of the Mangowood Homeowners Association and the neighbors, since at least as far back as I can remember from my very first election in 2010,” Fiore said. “To watch the children and families see the fire truck, this year from Station 4; the police cars; Santa in the golf cart, giving out candy canes – it’s like a small northern town feel right here in the big city with a tropical twist. It has always been something I look forward to every holiday season and especially so this season as I enter into my final year as Mangowood’s representative in the District 1 area in Palmetto Bay.”

The community of Mangowood has its entrance on SW 152nd Street and 84th Court, and as well as a decorative sign bearing its name and a flagpole with an American flag.
