The Seminole Theatre in Homestead recently was the site of spectacle and the collaboration of art and dance during a performance of “Art in Motion.”

The partnership was that of Vilma Borbolla, founder and director of the Ballet at the Park Dance Company, and Venezuelan artist Ana Gutierrez. The show began in the lobby gallery of the theater. On exhibit were many works from Gutierrez’s collection along with three “Frida Kahlo” pieces which were commissioned for the event.

The art show was followed by performances by a cast of over 70 Ballet at the Park dancers who recreated works on stage by Old Masters along with contemporary artists alike.

The paintings, which date back as early as 1495, included The Last Supper, The Starry Night, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, Oberón, Titania and Puck with Fairies Dancing, Woman with a Parasol, Girl with a Pearl Earring and many other famous paintings. These paintings came to life with body, movement, and costuming. Projected backdrops behind the performers made them a part of the artworks.
