In recognition of its efforts, Baptist Health’s Doctors Hospital once again has been awarded with an “A” grade from Leapfrog and was recognized with a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care, safety, teamwork and hygiene, among other factors, has again resulted in an “A” score in the Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing efforts to protect patients.

Doctors Hospital’s 5-star rating from CMS puts it among the best performing hospitals in the country for safety, patient experience, timely and effective care, readmissions and mortality.

“Even through the unprecedented challenges we have faced over the past year, the team at Doctors Hospital never wavered in our commitment to meet the highest standards in care and safety and to provide the best possible patient experience,” said Javier Hernandez-Lichtl, CEO of Baptist Health’s Doctors Hospital and Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute.

“Hitting these high marks speaks to the work and mission that drive us every day and validates our caregivers’ dedication to providing quality care and working with attention to detail, even through the most difficult circumstances,” he added.

The Leapfrog rating grades some 2,700 hospitals nationwide with a specific focus on patient safety — preventable errors, accidents, injuries and infections. Taken together, 28 performance measures are reviewed to produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance. Doctors Hospital also earned an A rating last fall.

The CMS rating, administered by the federal government, compares hospital data from across the country on a wide variety of measures of quality. Both ratings directly reflect the efforts at Doctors Hospital to achieve the ultimate goal — excellence in care.
